Our Mission
The ministry's mission is to serve and seek change for those affected by urban poverty in Tegucigalpa by investing in human relationships that act as a gateway toward a relationship with Christ.

Our founder Amber Foster formed Breaking Chains Honduras in 2009 as a way to reach out to those suffering from urban poverty in Tegucigalpa. After noticing the needs among the homeless and low-income population of the capital city, Foster decided to begin reaching out by making a weekly meal of rice and beans and serving it downtown out of her car. From this simple act, she formed relationships, and God stirred a desire and opened doors to serve in a greater capacity.
The ministry adopted the name "Breaking Chains Honduras" to convey the hope we all have in Christ to free us from the shackles that bind us. Whether low-income or affluent, Honduran or North American, all of us have things in this life weighing us down. The goals of the ministry always remain to foster transformative relationships through Christ, walk alongside one another and provide hope for those dealing with difficult issues such as poverty, addiction, violence, poor education, unstable family situations and, above all, a need for love and community.
The ministry began renting a building in downtown Tegucigalpa (Comayaguela) in 2010 and later purchased the property which now serves as its home base. Breaking Chains has grown and developed in many ways since its beginnings, including adding a wonderful team of Honduran and U.S. missionary staff and expanding its avenues of service. We now categorize our ministry's efforts under the following initiatives:
